Thread: Vertical Text

  1. #1

    Default Vertical Text

I have searched the board and tried several (wrong) ways to this, and maybe it can't be be done and I 'm just clueless.

I'm trying to make text like this "Now Is The" to look like this

    N
    o
    w

    I
    s

    T
    h
    e

I tried putting the text on a line and pulling to vertical that didn't work. I tried a vertical line hoping that it would follow that (It didn't)

    Any and all help appreciated

    Bob

In my opinion this is the best way. If the text does not fit or lay out the way you want then you can always change the size of the text box (length or width or both) until you get what you want.

I would create a text box and make it skinny tall and resize the font size to make each letter go to the next line.
I find centering the text makes it look better.

Center align the first character of the text, then key in a character, hit enter, key in the second character, hit enter, (etc.)

That's a poser and beyond the scope of this forum.

In addition to the above, I might adjust the leading to be closer together (the verticle space between each line or in this case each letter). In the Text Toolbar at the top of the Xara window, the last tool on the far right is space adjustment, and the 2nd adjustment "space after paragraph" is what you adjust the leading space with. The default leading is fine for horizontal text, however as verticle text the leading space might be too far apart, which is why I would adjust the leading space.
