This month, Gary spaces out (very atypical, right?) and shows you how to design a 3D object that’s truly 3D using the Extrude tool—a sci-fi-ish space beacon that extends in all three dimensions, how about that? Also, you’ll find out how to create and/or acquire a starfield to put your space beacon in. It’s all about unconventional uses of the Extrude tool to achieve out of this world effects! Learn More…

Show us your 3D beacons and other objects this tutorial inspires in this thread!

You are a beacon of hope, Gary...

OK, that was so bad, I'll go now

Certainly sci-fi-ish Gary, will have a go at that. Puts me in mind of a Borg ship in Star Trek the next Generation, well nearly I'll do a Big Frank and go now

Here's my effort of the Beacon, not done the second part of this tips and tricks yet as it looks a bit more trickier These shapes now remind me of those tiny robot thingys, nano bots, so I'll call this image INVASION OF THE KILLER NANO BOTS

How about texturing the beacon so it seems to have a greater scale? You could draw a lot of differently sized squares, add circles and stuff, and then make rectangle copies, with transparency, and then use the Mould tool to fit the textures to the sides of the beacon.

This was from Season 3, episode 5, "For God's Sake, Scotty, Turn Us Around!!!"

Seriously, you don't have to get as ambitious as I was to add detail to your virus, or BorgKraft, or beacon, whatever.

I looked at this tutorial and actually saw many things, one of which was a game I used to play as a child.
