Attached are 3 files. They are scans of a 1946 American Red Cross certificate, signed by President Harry Truman. The initial caps of The American Red Cross all have, what appears as, scribbles over the caps. The other two files are close-ups where you see that the scribbles do not actually mark over the letters. The scribbles are random and do not appear to be artistic. In 1946, you would have had to hand duplicate the scribbles in order to duplicate the certificate. If certificate authentication were called for, the scribbles could be compared to the original. This was before reliable photo-copies, so I suspect the scribbles are a form of authentication mark.
In today’s technology, this would not be hard to forge. In 1946, maybe not so much. Just thought a little graphics history might be fun. Thanks for indulging me.
