    Default Blur and Transparency problem

I draw something, then apply a Gaussian Blur to it, then apply a Transparency to it.
And I've done this loads of times in previous versions, by the way.
And I can still do this in Designer Pro X.

Well, in Designer Pro X9, if I do the above, it won't let me change values of the control points on the Transparency.

    Is this an XDP-X9 glitch?

    Can replicate.

Made a square. Applied Blur (by means of Fx) and, nope, after applying a linear transparency one can't edit the level of transparancy on the fill/

Workaround: copy and paste the attributes to an other object. Edit the transparancy an copy the object.Paste attributes to original.

Lock the effect Rik, then it works as before.

Well, I can only say, thanks Steve.
And, at least it's not too difficult to do and allows me to adjust and control the transparency.

Now, having locked the blur, and applied the transparency the way I want.
I can go back and adjust the blur, without unlocking the blur effect.
So. What's the point of the lock?
If that's not too rude to ask???

But, we didn't have to lock the blur effect in the previous version?!

That was then, this is now

Rik, I don't have any inside knowledge to answer why the change has been made. I can only presume that when the developers work on adding new features to an application for the new release, part of the debugging process means that some legacy routines need modifying to maintain or improve stability.

    Well, I can understand that.
I'm just happy that there's an answer that's reasonably easy to handle.

So, we have to group the text before we can stretch it!
And we have to lock the effect before we can do anything else to it.

I wonder what other surprises await us in XDP-X9?

This is a bug. I've logged it to be fixed.

Cheers Phil, though in point of fact I prefer locking affects if I'm going to be carrying out further work. Having the LE redraw each time can be a pain.

I am so pleased that it's a bug.

What makes Xara good, in my opinion, is that the tools are pretty easy to use and understand.
