There are people who produce great art using Excel, but that does not mean that Excel is the best interface or tool possible for that purpose.
What isn't subjective is the human perception of colour and shape, which changes according to the environment and the brain's interpretation.
When the interface does as little as possible to interfere with that interpretation, we should have the best possible interpretation of what we are seeing and working on.
People may well prefer the old interface, but working with the darker interface may be a better way to go in the long run.

I vastly prefer the old white UI over the dark one. Among other things, I had lots of problems with sub windows (such as the alignment or color editor dialog boxes) not displaying properly in Windows 7 with the default UI.

With AI, I prefer a setting of medium gray (it's adjustable) rather than the dark interface of XDP, but not as light as the old UI color. Would be nice to have a slider control for people to adjust to their preference.

Now that's a good idea. One interface with a slider that lightens or darkens it.

I would expect the problem with a slider to be the colors used for the button texts and graphics because you need a certain amount of contrast. You can see this problem with the texts used to identify the galleries. These are white and, thus, almost illegible against the light interface. It does not really bother me because I recognize the icons but it would be nice if it got fixed.
