    Default Earth Images question

    Hi,
why is it if you search for Earth images, (or create your own) that North America is the primary land mass? Even if you want Images depicting the southern hemisphere it is South America?, I found it hard to find images with say Autralia as the main landmass.

I searched for 'images of europe from space' and got the desired results.
And I searched for 'images of australia from space' and got the desired results.

So, I think you have to be a bit more specific with your search.

Or, is that not what you meant?

And that leads to a further question. Here in the US, in school, all our world maps are printed with the USA in the center of the map. If you live in England, or Australia, do your maps put your countries in the center? If so, would be fun to see a collection of grade school world maps from different countries. Bet the ones from South Africa or North Korea would be really interesting!

Geographically 85% of the Earth's population Lives in the northern hemisphere. Maybe that is why the majority of Space shots are from the northern hemisphere. Maybe that will clear things up for you?
    Thanks Jim

85%! Yes, I guess so, when you look at a globe, most below the equator is the southern Pacific Ocean.

But I still would like to see a snapshot from a schoolroom in Australia or New Zealand, of the big world map up on their wall. Unless they got it from an American publisher!

    Jim + Jon,

As far as I am aware the World Map has always been drawn with the centre point being the intersect between the Equator and Prime Meridian.
Which ends up being south of the Ivory Coast.
    Just google it...
