I'd like to ask (beg, actually) that a cease-fire takes place from this post on.

At very least, it's getting off-topic with the posts that are 100% personal and 0% on how to create a stone-etched design in Xara.

I, or a different Moderator, or the Administrator will PM the offending/offended parties later today probably, but please let's let the attitudes and grudge matches go—they defeat the definition of a community, which is what tg is based on.

Summer is just beginning in the Northern Hemisphere. I for one need to get into a serious water balloon fight with the children next door in a few hours in an attempt to combat Global Warming.

Before Xara had a Bevel tool, I really, really wanted to created a chiseled text effect, sort of like what United Artists used as a signature decades ago at the end of films (their own films).

I've attached my work in a post here, and will probably use this as the video tutorial for June at The Xara Xone. It's a lot of slicing, determining a centerline, and use of transparency modes, but there are also some rules (artistic and optical ones) that will make recreating this go a lot faster.

But in the meantime, I saw no reason not to share the result, because a lot of members are really good at decompiling art and figuring out stuff with no teacher intervention.

Hi folks,

Here's a little bit of fun: You can actually, interactively chisel into the face of a block of stone in versions of the program that have the eraser tool. Here's how:
* Draw a rectangle
* Give it a stone fill from the fill gallery, such as Granite6
* Apply a thick bevel to the rectangle (at least as big as the eraser nib radius)
* Now go to the eraser tool, make sure softness is set to 0
* Start erasing in the centre of the rectangle

You should see that you appear to be "chisellling" into the stone as you draw.

What you did is great artwork, Jim. You didn't follow my example, but your art is wonderful! You do say that your art is "Etched Stone". See, when you chisel stone, your stokes tend to meet at a centerline, this was what the first part of the video demonstrated. Your work still has a solid core to the characters, the strokes don't meet at the center, so the art looks unlike chiseled stone, but it's still valid and good artwork.

Don't take it personally, Jim. No one listens to me on tg.
