Exporting a jpeg without a white background

Kindly assist. How do I export a jpeg without a white background. I want a transparent background. Or is the best way to achieve this, to export as a png?

JPEG does not support transparency so export as PNG, True Color + Alpha. Or if you select 256 or 16 colors, then click the wine glass icon to select the transparency mode.

Change the colour of the object behind the object you're exporting

Or as Gary says, export as PNG which supports transparency.
