Default How to add accent marks in text

I have always typed alt+0+3digits on the keypad to get a letter with an accent mark above it (when typing in Spanish, for example). That method does not work for me in Xara Designer Pro X. What am I doing wrong?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

if you refer to the windows alt key codes:

    http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/accents/codealt.html

these should work - eg hold down alt and enter 0225 to get á [acute a] - you need to use the numeric keypad and make sure num lock is on

This is what I have made for easy access to accents.
It fits in a clear CD case, which is taped to the desk light next to my computer :

    ctrl + alt + a,i,o,u or e will give you á,í,ó,ú and é or with caps Á,Í,Ó,Ú AND É

You are very welcome, I have used this for years, it works well and is less hassle than the very long codes :-)

In the Help menu, look under Entering Special Characters.

    Special characters (in Text Tool)

Ctrl + Space Hard space (words with hard spaces between will not wrap at the end of a line)
Ctrl + NumPad – EN dash (An EN dash is longer than a minus, and is a more correct 'dash')
Ctrl + Alt + NumPad – EM dash (An EM dash is a long dash)
Ctrl + Alt +.(Full stop) Ellipsis (An ellipsis is three dots)
    Ctrl + Alt + C © Copyright
    Ctrl + Alt + R ® Registered
    Ctrl + Alt + T Trademark
    Ctrl + Alt + B Bullet
