    Default Navigation bars & Scrollbars

    Hi,

Just upgraded to web premium 9...very nice new features.

I have used a navigation bar from the widget folder and wanted to customize it somewhat. So I ungrouped it, made text larger and different color, plus made the shape (in the soft group) larger.

I have 4 elements in the nav bar (home, about, etc).

But now when I select them all to re-create the nav bar again (under Arrange)...I cannot. The "create Nav bar" under Arrange is greyed out.

Did I forget something or break something.

Also have a question about Vertical Scrollbars in a Text Panel. I have alot of copy on the page, but do not want the page to be realllllly longgg. Can I add a scrollbar to contain the text? With widgets? or how?

    thnx

You can change colours, font size (and colour) without ungrouping, John.
Navbar theme colours can be changed via the colour editor dropdown.
To change the font size, weight and face, select the whole navbar and then use the font tool.
The navbar will resize to suit the text size.

    Thank Sledger,

I'll try not ungrouping it. I only did so because I saw a button in the Nav bar editing panel that said "click here to ungroup and edit graphic"

    Welcome to TalkGraphics

A new feature in WD9 Premium lets you drag and drop a color from the screen palette (or drag and drop a mixed color from the Color Editor) onto the Navigation Bar. A menu will pop up with options for which color you wish to change. The options cover both the visible button state and MouseDown button state.

You can also edit the navigation bar colors directly in the Color Editor.

If you highlight the text in the Home button, you can change the font, size, and style. This will be applied to all buttons in the state.

That Ungroup to Edit option is no longer necessary and should be removed.

I find this new method much slower because you can only change one colour each instance.
Using the colour editor you can keep it open and change all theme colours without having to reopen a dialogue every time.
Also, like all of the new (added) dialogues with Xara's software in versions since the MAGIX acquisition, they are modal which means they can't remain on the screen while you work with other objects.. This is just a nuisance and a backwards step imho, pre MAGIX all Xara dialogues were non-modal.

You can edit all four colors in the Color Editor at one go.

Thanks guys for the tips. I'll try it.

Now...any thoughts on the vertical scrollbars in a text field (like this: http://www.southboroughpd.com/police_logs.html )

I did those with .js and standard HTML/CSS using Dreamweaver. Can I use the same technique here? I'm not yet familiar with inserting custom code into Xara as I cannot access the code that is being generated - or can I??
