    Hi everyone

In the last ten days or so, I've cleared out over 300 TTF fonts and the vast majority of my 115 Type 1 fonts since I really had no need for them as they are very rarely used (I'm still on Win98SE). This reduced my font count from some 700+ to approx 275 TTF and 10 Type 1 fonts. However, in so doing, every time I start Xara, I get a message to the effect that some fonts cannot be found so will be substituted. I should add that this happens with a completely empty template.

I've tried saving my default template again and making it the active template by selecting 'Use As Default' but its made no difference. The only thing that COULD possibly cause it is that I have a large number of brushes loaded at startup. Could this be anything to do with the message I get or is it something else?

This problem is not a major one as Xara still loads and I have all the normal facilities available to me. I just have to click on OK, the message goes away and Xara finishes loading. I'm asking more through curiosity as much as anything and of course, it would be nice to once again be able to start the program without getting that pesky message.

If you go to the names gallery then you should see a list of fonts used in that document. Those fonts with an asterisk (*) by the side of the name have been substituted.

You can then reinstall those fonts and hopefully the error message will stop appearing.

I think you have accidentially deleted the XARA Studio font - Xara needs this one. Any chance to re-install it from a backup??

    Hi Michael and Jens

Thanks for your responses. I've made the checks you've both suggested and although there were some graphics showing in the Name Gallery for the default template that were deleted some months ago, there were no fonts listed at all. Anyway the graphics were removed in the hope that this may sort something out - but no!

I also checked that the Xara font was installed and although it didn't show up in the Font folder listing, Windows still said it was there when I initially tried to recover it from a backup. Anyway I evenually managed to ensure it WAS there by restoring it but it still made no difference though. I even rebooted but, no the 'message' is still coming up.

I'm beginning to think about uninstalling Xara and then reinstalling but if I can I'd like to avoid that step if at all possible. So, any other suggestions?

Incidentally, I've never really used the Name Gallery and really have no idea what purpose it serves. I suppose I ought to know but I've always got along without it so far with the graphics I create which, in all honesty, are very elementary. Perhaps I should learn something more about it!

    Hi everyone

With reference to the first 'message' of this thread, I've now sorted it out. It was as I came to suspect, a brush that I'd installed. It was one of Gary's brushes where he had included some text in the .xar file and I'd deleted the font so it wouldn't load without the 'message' coming up.

The font I'd deleted was Trebuchet. I've already changed the file and used Arial but since Trebuchet is so widely used in web apps I've installed that as well now.

Thanks to all who replied to my initial message.

Glad you figured it out. (And sorry my brush template was the culprit http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/redface.gif)

. . . for deleting what appears to be a very common font used in web sites. I should have known better.
