I think you'll need to give more information.

What page size have you set and how do you know it's larger when printed?

When you view the complete page on Xara, that's how it should look when printed on the same size paper.

'Xara' is the name of the company who produce several applications.
To find out which application you are using check the desktop icon which has the name of the application, the opening splash screen generally indicates the name of the application and once opened, you can go to Help>>About **************
For Example in my Designer Pro X application it says

    Help>>About Xara Designer Pro X

if you are exporting to a file and printing that, then the export settings and the settings of the program you print from will be important

if you are printing directly from xara then as paul said if it should print at the page size - unless you are printing to a virtual printer when again other settings come into play

if you don't answer the questions we are working in the dark here ...

You don't mean you are holding a rule up to the screen do you?

Make sure your page units are set to Millimetres (or inches if you use them still)
Set the page zoom level to 100%
Use the info bar W/H fields to enter the exact dimension you require (you may have to unlock the aspect via the padlock icon).

We've all done it and for anyone new to this stuff, we understand how difficult it can be. Hang in there.

What page size do you have set in Xara?

Are you comparing the physical printed size to the physical size you see on the monitor?

If you look at the whole page on Xara and look at your printed page, your content should fill the page in the same proportions on the printed page as the page shown on screen, but it won't be the same physical size as on screen.

some good advice, and yes we all still are learning...

    I'll just add:

if you use a windows system, and your monitor is set to native ['recommended'] screen size and your xara zoom is set to 100% then what you see on the screen at that point will be pretty close to the print size depending on how close to the [windows] standard 96dpi your monitor actually is ... but as has been said its not the way to do it accurately, but it is good for a quick 'visual'

it does not matter what units you use as long as you use the same units for everything.....
