Default ctrl click to select a single item?

I'm working on something where I had the text conform to a curve. Now I would like to make the curve path in visible, and I was able to search for instructions on how to do that except that I'm finding them mystifying. I read "you can select a single item inside a group with Ctrl click," but when I go to the group in the layers gallery, the text and curve are treated as one item, and I see no way to separate the two. Can anyone explain what I need to do?

    Thanks,
    Ellen

What version of the software are you using? You should be able to Ctrl-click on the object itself on the page, then give it whatever attributes you want.

Hold down the Ctrl key and click on just the path with the Selector Tool (the arrow cursor). The status area in the lower left of the screen should indicate that you have selected the path or shape.

I have version 6. I'm finding that when I click on the curve path, it does not select the curve but rather it selects a letter of the text. I can't seem to get it to select the curve.

OK, I figured had what I needed to do: I needed to right-click on the clear button and select clear line. I'm completely new to this program. Thanks.

You may have to zoom in a bit.

Hi, also if you want to re-select your curve for adjustments it you can set you view to outline:
    Window/view quality/Outlines

it's possible to select an "invisible" line this way.

Glad you got it sorted out Ellen. Clearing the line color is what I was about to suggest.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

Another way is to convert to editable shape, ungroup, select the line and delete then group the rest of what was your text. The only drawback by doing it this way is that the text characters are now shape objects and can only be edited as such.
    Have fun...
