    Default guilloche

Hunting around for a cheap/free guilloche pattern maker, I found a free one that required a .dll file which I downloaded and installed in Windows/System 32 with no result, and another - Cerberus that costs just shy of $2,000. No, the comma is not in the wrong place. (20 bucks seems about right, though)
So, I had a go with XDP X (although pretty much any version should do) and with the quickshape star tool and the contour tool I came up with this - reminiscent of the designs on many banknotes throughout the world.
Use XDP and save 2 thousand dollars!
    Bob.

That looks as though it's been done by a piece of software, that would cost about 2,000 dollars.
Looks very good to me, Bob.

You got my interest earlier this morning Bob, and I spent some time trying to figure out what pattern generator you found. Then awhile ago I reread your post and saw again that you made it with XDP. Go figure. I really like your design Bob.

Hi Rich, what's a Xara wiggle?

Deke Mcclelland has made a tutorial recently to do similar kind of patterns in illustrator:

I cut circles in half, and joined the upper and lower halves. The shape depends on the compression. I made one drawing with more repetitions for for a stroke with a continuous path. I made these into vector strokes. Strokes will follow the path shape. They are fine as is, but unstructuring created massive number of nodes. One of the problems converting back and forth.

Thanks for the kind comments, people.
Attached is a mini tutorial on how it was done.
Apologies for the delay, a busy time watching rugby.
