Default Constructing text on a curve

    HI

I am trying to construct text on a curve by writing it on a circle's circumference, but the cirlce fills and so overlays any predrawn items beneath it. Can someone point me in the directon of a tutorial to get around this issue? I am sure it must be a simple prroblem to resolve but I just can't.

    Thanks in advance.

Draw a circle. Set line of circle to 1px (or any size).
Set the circle fill to none. You should now just have the circle line.
    Write your text.
Group select the text and the circle and select 'Fit Text to Curve'.
Now you can set the line to none and you should just have the text on the curve showing.

... and another way would be to use a circle with a fill and after you fit text to curve ... hold down CTRL key, left click on the circle (which selects just the circle) and give it a 100% flat transparency. One thing I've always liked about Xara is that there is often several different ways of doing things, so you can choose whichever one fits your way of working best.

Yet another way - draw a circle or ellipse as above - then convert to editable shape (keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + S) then with the shape still selected, choose the text tool and click anywhere on the circle's outline to start the text from that point.

The circle can be filled or unfilled.

You can also vary the way the text is formatted by altering the alignment controls, kerning, baseline shift etc - to get just the look you're after.

Lots of ways to skin the cat with Xara!

    Happy drawing ;-)
