Photo Hyper-real pencil drawings that look like photos

For those people who think creating photo-realistic art is in some way beneath "real" artists, check out these hyper-real pencil drawings that look like photos:

absolutely nothing new in that at all Frank - guys have been doing it since the dawn of photography

And please if your remark is directed at me, remember that what I said was that it was:
    a tremendous acheivement
    and that
    breathtaking technique
was involved in doing this sort of thing, and of course I admire it greatly.

I choose to think of 'art the process', as opposed to 'art the product', differently; but it does not mean that I think others have to differentiate between the two, or that somehow they are not 'real' artists - and in any case, they are free to define their work and themselves any old way they want - in the end, as was pointed out in the original thread - it's the punters who really decide, or perhaps, the suits with the cash - usually after the artist in question is dead and buried

now if you'll excuse me - I must sneak down to the Tate, just as soon as I find that marker pen ... I know I had it a minute a Name: exit.gif

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

I hate (and really admire) people who have that much skill with a pencil or any other medium.

    Incredible images.

When i was younger i tried to do realistic pencil sketches and though I was lauded by many people (ok, my family and friends) they were no where near these, incredible, the first one there is not much going on and is not that interesting but the second to last of the old timer is brilliant both in terms of technique and composition. There is an interesting debate about what is more important to art, technical skills or 'flair' to me you need both but I tend to side more with technique, for instance michealangelo's david is technical skills more than artistic flair but is undeniably 'art' whereas if someone does something similar these days they are seen as stone masons rather than artists.

Just have a look at this years turner prize the only artist working in a recognisable medium (to me any way) is Paul Noble the others, well you can judge for yourself http://www.tate.org.uk/context-comme...list-announced

I am not saying that modern art is no good, in fact the vast majority of pieces I have seen are good, just the recent addition of videos irks me, are they artists or directors or in the case of some of the turner prize shortlist simply editors.
