I am using XWD MX Premium and I need a slideshow widget that can be resized to fit portrait pics. Flash will not work as client uses iPhone and iPad. I think I've tried most all the widgets offered with no solution.

Install a Highslide slideshow - it's not hard and the results are worth the effort.

The Fade Slideshow Thumbnails Bottom, can be changed to Portrait mode. I'm not sure if it is included in WD6. I checked it out in WDMX.
