i know what reflection mapping is, it about creating realism in computer generated art

    realism

so, to convey realism, the butterfly should be casting both reflection and shadow on the object below it

the butterfly isn't set apart from the upside down dog bowl, its been purposely posed on top of it

the lack of shadow and reflection breaks any sense of realism

    the items are completely deconnected

I do not want to speak for Rich so I will make it clear that I am only going by the art that he has posted in the past, which you can quite easily research.

I know what you mean of course, but to me it's rather like saying Yogi Bear is wrong because he does not walk naturally. Yogi Bear would not be Yogi Bear if he walked naturally, it misses the point of the style...

It is just an image to test environment design. I am using an unknown capability of reflection maps in E3. The idea is to add color to part of an object and transparency to the remainder. I depends on the design of the environment and embossing value. The environments are rotational as well.
It would work with erase blending as well because erase blending depends on opacity.

    It is just a test.

    thanks rich
my "thing" with the image wasn't the butterfly , which is nicely rendered
it was the positioning of it on top of the bowl without referencing one to the other
but i think we've flogged this horse to death anyway
    cheers for now
