Creating a splash page

Currently i'm searching for a code or a way that i can create an immediate popup that will advertise this new contest were going to be holding. In my mind i think i want to set up a pop up that pops up right when a user visits the site and freezes all other actions until they exit.

Is this possible at all?

Basically i just want a box to come up and advertise this information, but i want the box to freeze all action on the site until its closed, forcing the visitor to read the info before continuing...

Absolutely the best way to annoy them. If you are going to do it you must make sure you do it only once.

Thanks a bunch but im still having trouble getting this to work. I can get my close button to work and all, but when I execute the script it doesnt fade everthing out and its behind acouple layers even though i have them at the top.... any live demos?
