Default Never mind the Apostrophe... This time...

...Well, this time I thought it was just going to be just spelling mistakes. But, I suppose the misuse of the apostrophe is part of it?!

I found a few of the quite funny!

Thanks Rik, glad to see that I am not the only person that has lost most of the ability to spell. Fifty years ago I could spell with the best of my school, but adults do not maintain some skills beyond grammer school..

Sadly enough, the same deterioration of spelling takes place here in Flanders as well, even in (semi-)official documents

I think my favourite is 'SPECIL OFEER' - instead of SPECIAL OFFER.

I'm sure if you were stood in front of the sign, and read it, you would genuinely laugh!

To be honest, Bill. I think we all lose a bit over the years.

I started to lose a bit of my skill when I got my first computer and printer in 1984 - BBC B and the Canon PW1080A printer. (Some things you never forget!)
I used to type and print things and Lynn would then proof read it. So, you stopped paying too much attention because someone else was going to check it!
Then one day, word processor came out with this new fangled thing called 'spell check'.
Lynn was most miffed. She was now out of a job!

The one that you don't see too often is the mistake with 'there' and 'their'.
When I was a very young boy, back in India, this fascinated me.
You could have two words that sounded exactly the same and yet were spelled differently and obviously had a different meanings.

But. Surely. If you were going to get a poster made or a printed sign, you would double check things?!
Or is quality control, now, too expensive?

Well, if nothing else, it lightens the mood for us.

Rik you should have Lynn double check the "spill Chuck" because there are many things that can slip past a computer application.

I agree with you, Bill. When trying to tell a story, you can make a few grammatical errors!
But, Lynn now charges too much. She has priced herself out of the market!

The number of times the grammar checker puts a dotted green line underneath a sentence!
I end up shouting at the computer 'No. That is what I want to say.'
And, yes, I know I can switch it off. But, it does come in handy because it makes you think.

Microsoft Word and Outlook have a habit of trying to tell me my grammer is incorrect. It is the grammer I have grown up with so who is Microsoft to tell me it is incorrect.

Those were funny Rik. I often see all kinds of bad spelling and grammar while going through the jokes that we collect from the internet for Good Morning Sunshine. My browser often tells me my spelling is wrong because it's set for US English and being a Canuck we use a mixture of British and US spellings with some French and first nations words thrown into our vocabulary

Frances--what browser are you using? In some/most browsers you can add languages. I have both Opera and Firefox set to use both US English and GB English. Because I help out on primarily US and UK sites, I hate the little red squiggles under words when I quote when they are not misspelled.

Not to say I still do not make my own mistakes, nor that others do not, but it does at least eliminate words that are not misspelled.

    Take care, Mike

Thanks for the link Rik, gave me a chuckle. I too am surprised how many of them are professionally printed or written; like you said, you'd expect someone to check things like spelling. These remind me of the 'Sign language' section on The Telegraph website, that has all sorts of funny/bizarre signs. My favourite was one that said "Warning - this sign has sharp edges".

    Regards
