    Hi Paul.

Do you have an example of what you're trying to achieve?
And, I'm sure the Xperts will be here to answer your question in a while.

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for?
What I've created, though, is in Designer Pro.

In 3D Maker, I think you would have to have the dotted lines on the text already.
Though, the Xperts here can achieve some amazing things!

    Hi Paul, welcome to TalkGraphics.

To achieve the stitching around the text in 3D Maker. You will need to use a raster image including stitching as a texture.

    Hi Rik.
Thanks for the quick response, that's brill, exactly the type of thing i'm looking for with the stitching, i haven't quite got a full image of what im after yet i've just done the text in xara "The Tailor's Dummy" (name of her shop) to be honest it's the sample "3 line rotate pages" in screensavers in xara7 lol...but i'm hoping with a bit of juggling with the text attributes i can come up with something she can use on her website and letterheads Thanks Again Paul G...
p.s. does anyone know then if this design Rik supplied can be applied in either xara or Photoshop...

    Hi Paul.

Can you tell me which font you are using?
Unless it's pretty thick (like in my example) then the stitching may not have the right look.

Paul the easiest way I found to create stitched text is to use a combination of Xara Designer Pro X and Xara 3D Maker 7.

In Xara Designer Pro X select a font and make some it 72 pt. Clone the text and assign a 1 step, inner contour of 4 pixels and click the Inset Path button on the infobar. Give the Clone a line colour and no fill. I used a 2 pixel line width. Give the original text a fill, I chose Denim. For the Clone I gave the outline a dash pattern and a line colour of Medium Yellow. Export the filled text and the outline text as a png with transparent background to be used a the texture for the work in Xara 3D Maker 7.

To make things easier for aligning the texture, I saved my work from Xara Designer Pro X and then imported the .xar file into Xara 3D Maker 7. Next the texture png file needs to be loaded as the text texture. It should align to the 3D text without and adjustments needed.

    See the attached images.

Thumbs up Re: Making stitch lines on text

    Bill.

What would I need to do, in order to be able to past my creation into 3D Maker 7?

No matter what I try, I cannot paste the text into Maker 7 so that the stitching effect remains.
I just get the plain text.

EDIT: I see that you've already posted the answer.
I assume that copy/paste does not work then?
You have to save the image, one way or another and then import etc...

Yes. The 'Texture' fill (using the saved .png of the stitching effect) is the key to get the end result.

    Thanks, Bill.
I don't much play in 3D Maker 7, so it was a bit of fun for me, and a bit of learning!

Rik only the shapes can be copied and pasted into 3D Maker 7.
Export your work as a raster image, preferrably as a gif or png with transparent background.
Once you have your shapes in 3D Maker 7 then load your gif or png as a text texture.
