Default Adjusting the aspect ratio in Portfolio gallery

I am using the Portfolio gallery page from the new Web Designer MX Premium program.

I have some images that are not square (rectangles, some vertical, some horizontal), is it possible to leave the default thumbnail photo square but have the zoomed photo show the correct aspect ratio of the image. Ideally the gallery would automatically detect the correct aspect ratio of the zoomed image, so I would not have to manually size the image. It seems the only way to display the correct aspect ratio of the zoomed image is to manually size the thumbnail.

Also is it possible to add additional thumbnails other than the default number of ten?

I think if the photo gallery is using pop-ups then you are restricted to the aspect ratio of the thumbnails.

You can do this the hard way and create a separate layer for each image and place each of your layers on a separate layer and link your thumbnails to the appropriate layers.

I just did this for my galleries http://www.custom-stereograms.com/cu...ereograms.html

It's more work but the results are so much better (in my humble opinion).

Thanks for the recommendation, yes yours looks nice. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to use layers, the help menu seems confusing. How would I edit an existing gallery that uses layers. As a general question how do I change the text color.

    Choose the selector tool F2
    Select the text
Click a colour on the colour bar at the bottom of the screen
    Select set fill colour

Alternatively drag a colour and drop it onto the text

See if this helps. Look in the Page and Layer Gallery to see the layers and click on the thumbnails to see the link information.

The first three thumbs link in Website Properties > Link > Link to Pop-up Layer...

The second three thumbs are mouse over links in Website Properties > Mouse-Over > Show Pop-up Layer

The solid thumb nails and those with the glow effect are all on the appropriate layers as well as on the Mouse Off layer.

Thanks Gary, your example was very helpful. The process is fairly simple once you know what it is, here is my explanation of the steps for any newbie. I'm sure the workflow can be simplified once I get some repetition.

Thumbnail with Mouse-over image 1 (larger version of thumbnail)
    1. Mouse Off layer
Place thumbnail here, import image copy/paste/size down to thumbnail

    2. Create new layer, Layer 1, at same level as Mouse Off layer
Drag original image 1 to show with mouse-over to layer 1

    3. Right click thumbnail
    Web Properties
    Mouse over tab
    Select ‘Show pop up here’
Select layer with photo (layer 1)

    4. (Optional) Glow Highlight when thumbnail selected - creates Shadow Group
Create copy of original thumbnail (step 1)
Select shadow tool, apply to new thumbnail
Select shadow style, glow is forth style (shadow all around)
Place Shadow Group under layer 1 (layer with zoomed photo)

    5. To add additional mouse-over images, image 2 (large image)
Create new layer (layer 2) at same level as Mouse Off layer
    Import new image 2
    Copy image 2

Select Mouse Off layer and paste image 2
Create new thumbnail of image 2, Copy/Paste/Size for new thumbnail 2
    Select Shadow tool/select glow style

Drag new Shadow Group to layer 2 (Shadow Group is created when shadow applied)
    Setup mouse-over on original thumbnail 2, right click/Web properties/Mouse-over tab/Show pop-up layer
Align glow thumbnail 2 (with shadow) over original thumbnail 2

If I messed up the workflow let me know.
    Thanks again
