Although grouping isn't necessary as long as you have saved, you can group your final image by using ctrl+a to select all then ctrl+g to group. You will also find the option to group in the arrange menu.

Autocorrect: It can be your worst enema.
You can group if you like, but if you're exporting as a bitmap (png, jpeg or gif), you don't need to. All the objects you include in the export are automatically merged/flattened in the bitmap. Plus, you still have your vector elements in the xar file so you can edit or add to it later.
That's good because that's what I've been doing. Thanks. I'm trying to get used to saving without merging.
