I just timed mine and it took about 12 seconds from the time I clicked the shortcut to fully open. That included the file I had been working on plus two others.

Steven do you have the restore open files enabled? If one or more of the files the program expects to restore have been removed that can add considerably to the time it takes to decide the file(s) no longer exist and continue to the display of the application.

My tests were done with no open files to restore.
FYI, Xara Support has acknowledged the problem and indicated that a fix is forthcoming. See response below:
"We have however made some changes to the online check mechanism which will hopefully reduce the delay you are encountering.
This change will be included in the next update likely to be within the coming month"

Problem much improved with version 8.1.2.23228.
Flash screen displays in about 7 seconds.
Fully loaded in under 18 seconds (opening several files.).
