Bug Illustrator CS5 and Adobe Reader X shared PDF rendering Bug

    Hi,

Recently I found this shared PDF rendering bug
by both Adobe products: Illustrator CS5 and
    Reader.

    Look at the attached files.

If you look the PDF file in Illustrator CS4
or Foxit Reader or Preview (from MacOS X)
these square clipping boxes around the words
    "La Tormenta" are not found.

Please compare the Xara file (the source)
with the pdf display in these recent Adobe
versions. Did Adobe simply "changed" or actually
    "fixed" the pdf rendering engine?

Which person in Adobe had the strange idea of
clipping these vector objects with a box???

How could I view these PDF as intended using
    CS5 and Reader X?

    Thanks in advance!

    Alejandro

Hi Alejandro you seem to know both Xara & Illy programmes but I can't see any difference really in both programmes bar in the xar. file the lettering is grouped. Could you possibly post the actual D Pro file as it should be as at the moment it is quite hard to see what you are trying to achieve. In both L/hand logos the lettering shapes are white with a copy which is also white behind and I can't see any reason for one of these copies. If you were trying to achieve a white stroke outline over the black swirl which would change into a black outline when over white background then you're going to using a mask or clipview at least and this is why I was asking for the .xar file.

Actually, I posted a png image, a pdf file and a Xara archive.

Could you download these 3 files?

For example, if you compare the png image with the xara file,
you will notice the difference in the letters.

Could you post an screenshot of the xara archive opened in your computer?
If you open the pdf file using Foxit Reader and Adobe Reader X
the differences in rendering jump out of the screen.

Yes, this is exactly the way in which the design should look.
Now, Could you test with Adobe Reader X or/and
    Illustrator Cs5/Cs4?

    Thanks in advance!

In my first post I did mention that I view your file in Acro reader and it looks exactly like both PNG files I showed above. Now I don't have the luxury of having CS4/5 but do have CS3 and when I opened the file yesterday they had no mask in place and were in fact they were even grouped.
Should tell you I worked for a health board in Scotland and I am in and out of both Illy & D pro 6 daily and use Acro Pro for proofing and do not have any problems with the software. There is a known bug in Acrobat at high levels of zoom but this is not your problem yours were clipping of lettering in each of the 2 designs. This maybe the fault of Xara's export filter as it looks like you used an envelope to distort your text but I tried that and couldn't replicate your effect. So I have tried everything that you have asked but I can't get the same as you but I don't think it is a bug in Adobe's reader 10.

This should be some kind of bug, because Adobe Reader X in MacOs X and Windows
produced the same wrong clipped letters as in the png image that I posted.
I have been reported that Illlustrator Cs5, on Mac and PC produced the same
    wrong results.
Illustrator Cs4, Foxit Reader, Nitro PDF, Preview (for MacOs X) and probably many
others programs do not add this extra clipping path to the letters...

Bug Re: Illustrator CS5 and Adobe Reader X shared PDF rendering Bug

    Hi Albacore,

I have collected several screenshots of PDF readers.

Please download them and check by yourself that only
Adobe Reader X is not drawing correctly the file.

I have been told that Illustrator Cs5 produces the
same error as Adobe Reader X.

Do a search on the problem and see if there are any solutions given. The Adobe forums are the best place to look and they have a good quality search engine in there forum.

Yes, I will visit Adobe forum.
Hopefully, there should be a solution,
besides asking printers to use older
    versions of Adobe software.

Albacore, many thanks for following up
    this thread.
