Firstly this is not a Microsoft supported installation proceedure - there was a warning to this effect - and I therefore can't 'recommend it', just saying how it was for me

I have installed it and then installed XP Home as guest, it's running fine, doing what I need, no problems worth a mention so far

Reason for doing this was because my computer does not have a hardware virtualization processor so win7 XP mode and Virtual PC were ruled out, and XP was necessary onboard the computer to install and run some old, expensive, and still perfectly functional thank you very much hardware that the manufacturer has ceased supporting [no W7 drivers; compatibility mode not fixing]
