A Pass photo? are you meaning a passport photo? I'm not sure what you want transparent. Is something like this what you want to achieve? but with a transparent background?

you mean a bit like the attached?

its done with plugins on the basis that you don't want to draw form scratch - its not perfect, there is still a slight haze on the background, more tweaking may fix that or draw round the outside and subtract shape is more precise

the plugins used in order were

xero greyscaler - to make it black and white which makes removing the the background easier, need a highish brightness setting [this is one of the plugins Frances linked here: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...239#post434239 ]

mehdi classic [supplied with xara] - to remove [now white] background

deformation filter > liquid colour > draw [supplied with xara] - to distort

after each plugin use you should make bitmap copy before using next
it remains a bitmap of course, if you need it vector you are going to have to actually draw it I think

Just a thought, you could try the line drawing filter supplied with Xara, or Photo to Sketch (Free) I think both would be bitmaps though. Like I said it's just a thought, whether either would fit your needs I don't know.

Soet, the example you provided I would regard as an illustration, same for Frances, while the example made by handrawn is more of a caricature. Caricatures are recognisable by the comic exagerration of features in the face - physical features, expression, etc, often a large head sat on a small body. It's quite a skill to do a caricature well.

So, are you after a caricature or an illustration?
