Question How do I make a JPEG image logo transparent?

    Hello everyone,

I bought last month Xara Web Designer 7 Premium and it is very nice to work with it.
    But i have a question

I have an JPEG of a logo of my company in a white background done in photoshop. I would like to bring this image into Xara Web Designer to incoroporate with my drawing.

Is it possible to make the white background of the jpeg image to be transparent so that the drawing done in Xara Web Designer shows through the white background area only?

Any suggestions given would be very much appreciated!

    Thank you!

Jpegs do not have transparency. If someone created the logo for you in photoshop then the quickest route is to get them to send you the logo as a png file with transparency.

    Thanks for your post.

I made the logo by myself. I also tried a png file but it doesn't work...

Jack how are you trying to make the png.

If you are using the jpg with a white background you will need to mask out the white background before you can create a png with a transparent background. Simply opening the jpg and then saving as a png will not do what you are asking.

As the others have said you need to set the background to transparent somehow within your software. If you made the file in Photoshop there should be a way to export/save the image as a .GIF or .PNG which both can be transparent. Be careful however if there is a lot of white in the image if it is on a white background. It could make the white in your image transparent as well. Look in Photoshop Help and it should tell you how to do it. I use a different program( Paint Shop Pro X )so I can't tell you how in Photoshop but the Help section will walk you through it.

jack, how complex is the logo? its quite a simple matter make an image transparent using many of the free paint programmes, i use paint.net personally to make most of my icons etc transparent it does a good job as long as the image isnt too "busy" so to speak - you can post the image up here and i'll run it through the paint.net prog and see how it turns out.
