I was thinking the balls were not quite showing the correctly shaped surface lines and so came up with the following

I seem to recall a thread somewhere where someone was wanting to produce a realistic looking golf ball and having trouble with dimples.

Also, another thread with microphone holes.

Anyone want to comment on the usefullness of techniques discussed here to applying the round shapes needed for the golf ball dimples?

Followed the technique were I could, but can't get the position profile as the circles are just individuals.

Any ideas?

If you make your original grid of circles with the blend tool you can then use the position profile. But even if you haven't never fear. You can apply multiple circular moulds. Just convert to editable shapes each time and rotate 45 degrees. You need to do an odd number of iterations. The first ball has one iteration, the second one has five. All have clip view applied

Hope you don't mind my saying so, but there is an optical impossibility in your structure: towards the sides the circles should become less wide, and not allongated. See example.
