Sunken Text Effect in D7 - Need Help

Hi Xara Family,

I created an effect and can't reproduce it (see attached). It's the smaller 'S' and 'C' that I want to learn how to do. I want to be able to create a sunken text effect with shading etc but have monkeyed around long enough to no avail. Can anyone provide steps, videos, tutorials and or examples on how to do this in D7? I would really appreciate any tips or advice on how to efficiently produce this effect.

Hi Steve,

It looks to me that the letters were subtracted from a round cornered square.

1 - Create the square with round corners.
2 - Switch to Text Tool and one at a time type the letters you want to use so they are not a string of text.
3 - Switch to the Selector Tool and if necessary resize a letter and place it over the rounded square.
4 - Select both the letter and the square and Arrange menu > Combine Shapes > Subtract Shapes.
5 - Repeat step 4 for each of the letters.
6 - Apply a Drop Shadow to the remaining portion of the rounded square.

Hello Steve, I think that Bill has guessed right about how you created the sunken text however like most things in Xara there is another way to do this. I put together a quick mini tutorial. This method gives you a separate vector shadow that can be manipulated with the shape tool and/or given different effects or transparencies.
