Default Forget the Eraser Tool - This is what I want...

I'm sure all Illustrator users know about the '3D Revolve'.

You can see by the attached images, that even though I don't really know much about Illustrator, I could easily make a 3D shape.

Draw half of any shape and apply the 3D Revolve.
Rotate the 3D shape in any direction you want.
After having applied the effect, the shape is still editable etc...

    BRILLIANT!

That would be a great addition, don't you think?

Where's the "Like" button? I've been messing around with the 3D tool quite a bit lately, and YES - it would be really nice to be able to edit an image even though it's been rendered as an extrusion.

Something like that would be interesting for sure, It looks like Illy creates a mesh when it extrudes, Xara doesn't. Xara's extrusions are actually raster based, if you convert an extrusion to editable shapes you get a clipped photo not vector shapes.

While I would love to see mesh extrusions in Xara I have a feeling we will be waiting even longer for this than erasers and brushes that stretch along a path. I have used blender for doing this exact thing I draw my curve in Xara and export as svg then import the svg into blender where I spin it. Now if Xara could import svg I might be able to bring a vector object back into Xara.

Yes, and there are perhaps one or two other things in Illy worth finding too, Rik.

I think Xara could implement some of Illy's capabilities in a simpler manner than Adobe, too. Xara can do most of the actual work of drawing so much quicker. That is something I would dislike loosing.

    Take care, Mike

That looks like a lovely little gadget. It'd be fun to play with. It would certainly be nice to have but, like the content-aware photo resize which nobody talks about any more, how many Xara purchasers would ever use it to warrant the Xara development cost? Not many is my guess.

There's a lot of people on the forum playing with Blender because it's free. There's a lot of information in that statement alone. I play with TrueSpace (or at least I would if I had the time) for the same reason.

Like Mike above, I would be very sorry to lose any of Xara's relative simplicity just to add one or more Illustrator-type gadgets. I can buy Adobe Illustrator CS5 (PC) on Amazon.co.uk for just £572.72. There's a reason it contains twice as many gadgets as Xara, but it still can't draw as fast as Xara.

Frank.. xara doesn't draw - you do - and nowhere near as fast with a shape tool even, as a man/woman with a brush that works.... simplicity is good - nothing much simpler or older or faster than a chinese brush, does have a learning curve though

ok I promise to ease off on that subject honest, time I did some real work again

good guess Frances - meshing - bloat? depends how you define it

No, Xara does. I just sit here in front of my laptop and stuff just appears. Amazing how it does that, really, when you think about it.

    Doesn't yours do that?

That's the only way to eat it. Papillon is my favourite and when it starts walking out the door all by itself, that's the time to savour its piquante acidity and, incidentally, watch whilst Xara does all kind of crazy things on your screen.

They say a really rank roquefort passes for kryptonite, hence the reason Superman spurns it...

    ...so they say anyway
