Default Okay - this is where an eraser tool would be nice...

I'm messing around with shapes and bevels and I have this shape (attached .xar file) that is basically two lines - I need one of them erased! I don't really care if it's the top line or the bottom one. No this isn't actually two lines, or that would be easy (well it would be draw a rectangle over it and clip it several times, right? But no, this is a shape, so when I draw a rectangle, and try to slide it, it does two things - 1) it does slice the shape, but leaves behind lines or 2) completely removes the original shape and leaves only the (now weird shaped) rectangle. Bevel_Eraser.xar

So how do I get the "extra" line to "erase? Would really appreciate some insight...

    Thanks!

select the shape - arrange menu - break shapes -

you now have two one of which you can now delete

Well, I did figure this out. I changed it to an editable shape then clicked on the outer line (about 10 times, at each node!) and then started deleting each node until I got rid of the outer "line". However, IMO, this would have been SO much easier to do with a simple eraser tool! Instead of having to convert the shape, break the lines and delete each point I could have smiply "erased" the entire outside line. Just my two cents worth. Is there an easier way to do this?

Steve, when I did that, part of the bottom line disappeared too. Don't know why, but it did, so I had to make several breaks in the outer line to prevent that. Still, it would be simpler with an eraser (sorry to beat a dead horse but it would. - just sayin'!)

if you do what I suggested you they are seperated - you then just select one and hit delete

it worked for me - just make sure you only have the one 'double line shape' selected

Thanks steve - I'm still learning

Still, all in all, an eraser would be nice... (said in my small, pleading, whiny voice - lol!)

it all comes down to saving time IMO especially if the art is immediate spontaneous and freehand

Coleen I looked at your .xar file and the problem you have with the top right shape is that the black lined shape is on top of the red rectangle and therefore you are slicing the red rectangle. Bring the red rectangle to the front and it will slice the black line shape. Doing a slice will still result in a closed shape as evidenced by the line closing the gap. I think the only option is to convert the lines to shapes if you want to avoid that.

As previously suggested by Steve, break shapes works well for me on all three.
