no one thinks of everything - I certainly don't

    another thing that might help..

when you have created the 3600 x 3600 rectangle select it and position it so that the x and y coordinates on the selector tool info bar are whole pixels

works best for me with a rectangle with no outline

Then forget GIF and use PNG, GIF will give you pretty average 256-colour dithering, PNG +alpha is true colour

why not just create a page that is 3600 x 3600 px and when the save dialog comes up, just save the whole page instead of the drawing?

    That works, too.

In the Export dialog box, click the Bitmap Size tab. In Area To Save, click the Page radio button.

Perhaps the bigger question here is how knowledgeable or un-knowledgeable us a printer who requests anything to be printed in GIF format.

GIF was a image compression scheme developed by Compuserve (remember them--probably not) a few decades ago to allow members to post photos in an very bandwidth and color challenged environment. Most computer monitors could only display 256 colors and so for this GIF was a good vehicle.

But how many people still have monitors that can only display 8-bit color? That's ancient technology. And a printer that even mentions GIF in connection with output is dealing in the dark ages. I would not have a lot of confidence in his state of the artness. Ya know?

the guy did mention png as well, but to have mentioned gif and not pdf/eps displays a certain lack of professionalism

Wow! Did someone just open a time capsule and utter the word Compuserve?

I remember the 256-color days. Whichever window had focus would look halfway decent, and every other visible window behind it looked horrible.

The only thing "good" about those "old days" is that they're behind us!
