How to get nice text into a JPEG ?

Most of us are perfectly satisfied when we use the proper file format for the job. The good reason to use PNG has been demonstrated here by several members. If that is not a good enough reason, then that is something you need to deal with.

Fact is, XDP should not cause the color shift like is demonstrated in this thread when using JPG as the export format. As well, I believe it is the amount of anti-aliasing on the small point size that causes what looks like the fuzzy text. Neither the PS nor Photoline text has that amount of anti-aliasing on the small point size.

It's something that at some point, the Xara developers should look at.

Ultimately, the central issue is that Xara's JPG export is not quite perfect. Xara can certainly choose to update it at some point if they feel there's sufficient pressure to do so from the user base, but I'm of the opinion that choosing not to update it may be a necessary intermediate step in the campaign to finally let the file format die in favor of better ones (bottom line, JPG and solid swaths of color do not play well, and never will).

In the meantime, for the purposes of working within the OP's specific technical parameters, I second the option of exporting to PSD, then editing in Photoshop and exporting to final JPG from there. Much cleaner than using GIF.

The point stands that for no very good reason Xara's abilility the export decent JPEGs remains not as good as it could and should be.

In the absence of any other solution, and if you already know the filename, you can easily do it like this:

Nice crisp clean text as JPG created in Xara PG7. Export as AI, open in illustrator and export as JPG. Set image quality as 8 maximum, format Baseline(standard), resolution depth high 300dpi, anti-alias on and Walla crisp clean JPG with good reds..!

You can clone the red text and the resulting jpg export will be much better. I have to do the same procedure with white text also.
