Lightbulb New site ... local carpenter

This is a new website for a local carpenter, would be great to get some feedback:

    http://pb-schreiner.de/index.htm

The site was originally handwritten in HTML from a designer - as he no longer had the time to update the site, I took over and re-built the site in Xara with some minor changes!

    Hope you like it

I like the design of the site. It is very attractive and professional.

If I can make a suggestion. The images on the page are loading a little slowly. This is because Xara is exporting your images with shadows over the pale yellow background as PNGs. The two attached images are the same, but the JPEG is 14.5K and the PNG is 143K.

If you place the photo image over a background that is the same color as your web page, add your shadow to the image and change the image in the Website Properties > to JPEG, Xara will add a small amount of background color around the image shadow that will accomplish the same effect. But the file size will be half the size.

If you do this for all the photos with shadows

    Great simple site!

Are the buttons on the right a single naviagation-objects ore are they unique buttons? Because it looks great that one button pops out to the left when you are on the page, how did u do that?

    Hi Thomas,

thanks for your compliment - the navigation bar has one file for each point of the menu ... on the active menu site I have only replaced the original background file with the arrow from (see attached files) ... hope that answers your question!

@Gary: I have changed the image format to jpg ... saved me about 50% of the original file sizes - I guess loading time will improve!

I can't say I have noticed the site being slow on the loading side but just checked again and it is pretty much instant loading (cleared the cache first of course). I always check my sites using my office's average speed broadband (I think it's meant to be UPTO 16meg, but I have speed tested it and it is usually about the 7meg rate).
