Expression 3 is a very old application where you can design strokes. It was the last version with variable width control. I don't remember any pen capabilities. You could read the Xara EPS In the earlier vara versions, biut I thing the export filters have been upgraded and not compatible any longer. E3 has an early PDF export the I use for sending vector back to Xara. I use it to color my drawings, but mostly draw in Xara. E3.3 is still a free download from Microsoft.

    Rich,

The ED 4 September Preview has EPS in the File menu. However, you can change the Xara EPS filename extension to AI and ED 4 (release) will open them. Even so, the Sept. Preview doesn't still handle all Xara attributes one can add gracefully. Shadows on text is one prime example, as are PNG bitmaps embedded in the Xara design.

    Take care, Mike

I too would love to see the ability to create what is essentially a brush that stretches along the path. This is something that would really open up a lot of creative potential!

    Mike,

My favorite capability was removed from ED along with several other capabilities like variable width. I'll continue to use Xara and E3 together.

    Frances,

E3 strokes flow along the path repeating or non repeating. There are a few other controls as well. Effect lines flow the strokes between two paths, and can accumulate.

the E3 method is very useful

[inkscape has a flaky implementation of stroke to path too BTW]

    Frances,

Knowing the possibilities would help you ask the right questions.

You also have vector and bitmap warping.
