I know I'm talking to an Xpert, but unless the current background is very important, I've found in the past that different backgrounds can make a difference?!

The background pattern is critical, and no Frank, white will not work very well. For a background to be effective and hold the detail, in this case a word, it has to have a lot of contrast and randomness. I tried a dozen different backgrounds before I found one that worked well. If the background does not have a lot of contrast and texture, the shifts in the pattern become quite obvious and distracting. And I think that medium to darker backgrounds somehow work better than light colored ones.
