Unable to edit and save old Xara Pro 6 files in PRO 7

I get this error message everytime I edit a Pro 6 file and try to save it in Pro 7.



Then I get this message:

and I lose all my work PLUS I can't open any backups PLUS I lose the file
altogether. Somehow the file gets deleted from where it was originally saved.
This has happened numerous times. I've tried to discover a work around
but nothing will do.
Please address this! I've had to recreate entire files because of this. I've
tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software a number of times, but it doesn't
make any difference. And the problem only exists when I edit a Pro 6 file in
Pro 7 and try to save it.

I love Xara!!!! But this is driving me nuts!

Have you tried importing the file rather than opening it.

The error messages seem to be missing from your post. Can you attach them or transcribe the text so we can understand what you're seeing?

Yes Christine, the import seems to work fine. I tried it a number of
times. Importing using the insert works best for me, then I just delete
the blank page and all seems fine, layers and everything.

Only problem is, and I acknowledge it's not a big problem, I have to go
through and delete layers that I don't need. I'll come up with a work around
for that. Maybe set up a special template for each size drawing that has
no existing layers.

Here's the error code message.

I tried following your suggestion Christine and it worked with simple drawings that had one or just a few layers. But when I imported, edited and tried to save
more complex drawings with 10 or 15 layers I still get the error message attached and lose the file. Fortunaltely these have been on backup drive, but I still
lose the work I did to the drawing after import. Here's the error code message.

Can you post one of the problem files for others to try.

I presume you have done the usual 'run as administrator' even if you are logged in as administrator this makes a difference.

Also check if the original files are set as read only.

Yes, if we could see a file that has this problem that would be very useful.
