Default Glossy Text Effect Tutorial for XD7

I watched the below tutorial but can't get the same outcome in XD7. Does any have a step by step version or an updated tutorial?

    Thanks,

where did you get stuck? - if it was looking for the pen tool, that is still available just no longer on the tool bar by default: press shift+f5 - you can use the shape tool or the freehand/brush tool instead if you wish

I'm having difficulty with reproducing the contour effects. I seem to get no effect or text turns to blob when trying to add this effect. I'm sure it's an oversight on my part but I've tried many times now only to arrive at the same result.

    Hi Steve.

Have a look through the Tutorials in XaraXone

Here's one I found quickly. Might not be exactly what you're looking for but it will teach you a method.

    Text Effect

    Better still.

Post your file and there's hundreds who will tell you where you may be going wrong.

Are you stuck with what to do with the Contour Tool?

    Hi Steve.

I didn't follow the instructions in the video.

I first applied an outer contour of 2px, changed the number of steps to 1.
Then converted to Editable Shapes and then Ungrouped.
I then selected the inner part and applied an inner contour of 3px, changed the number of steps to 1.
Then converted to Editable Shapes and then Ungrouped.

I now have all the shapes I needed.
Coloured the very back shapes to a dark green / dark red accordingly.
Coloured the middle shapes to a lighter green / lighter red accordingly.

The front shape, I slice Cut (CTRL+4) with a curvy line.

I'm sure you know how to use the Fill Tool give the appropriate effects.

Last thing is to give the back shape a shadow.

    Looks reasonable?!

I had to leave for a while but thanks to everyone for the help. I will follow the steps provided.

    Again, I really appreciate it!

I have a bit of a different method for doing this, I use feathering instead of contours adjust the feathering with the slider and use the profile sliders (click the arrow beside the feathering slider) to fine tune the feathered edges. By nudging the middle lighter coloured layers up and to the left you can give it a slight pseudo 3D look.

Here is a .xar file for you to pull apart.

Because in Xara you can do so, many people have different methods to achieve this, and I'm no different. However, my objective is always to leave any text I add to a design editable if at all possible. Therefore my way of achieving this may seem a little odd, but it serves its purpose well.

It's very fast and very efficient. I don't have time to do a tutorial but anyway I don't think one's needed.

    XAR file is attached.

You made me curious so I had a few 'peeks' at your file, but perhaps you've too much confidence in our abilities......

Every time I tried to dig into this simple text I ended up with a 'serious error crash'....oops!
Could it be due to the font that's within your file is not on my system?

Anyhow, still curious how you did it.

very curious indeed. It's a fairly common font face "Cooper Black" and the drawing has nothing complicated in it at all. There's a clipview and a drop shadow and a couple of linear transparencies. Keep me posted. I doubt it's anything to do with your abilities, that's for sure.
