Default Which XARA product can produce icons?

I haven't used any XARA product so I'm wondering if any of the XARA products are suitable for creating icons for Android or iPhone apps? I'm looking to create the fancy glossy icons that look 3D-like. Output would be PNG, JPG, and may need to import PSD (photoshop) file. The icons would have to be created in different resolutions/sizes.

Or should I stick to icon centric apps like IconWorkshop from Axialis?

    TIA

Hello Brent, Welcome to Talkgraphics. You should be able to create the icons in Picture&Graphic Designer or Designer Pro. There should be no problem creating PNG or JPG formats. Xara doesn't export as an icon format for example .ico but there are several free programs that could convert the graphics for you. If you need to import psd files with 16bit colors or cmyk color models you will need Designer Pro.

xara 3D maker will export in ico format, that is version 6 does, so I assume version 7 will as well

What separates an ICO type from other image file formats is the ability to store and display more than one version of the file. The versions inside are often of different sizes (16x16, 32x32, etc.). Because the format in the OP is simply PNGs, any of the Xara drawing apps is appropriate. But because of the need to import of PSDs...I would use Designer Pro.

    Take care, Mike

I use Designer Pro all the time to do the drawing.
Then save it as a transparent png (if transparency is required).
Then use an Icon creator programme like IcoFX (you still may be able to find a free version) to make the icon.
IcoFX (and other programmes will as well) allows me to create the icon with all the sizes needed. 256, 48, 32, 24, 16.

I do it more or less the same as Rik and usually save it 32x32pix size. Usually I prefer to convert the image to an ico with Irfanview. Using Irfanview or a dedicated icon making program depends on the result I want.

If it's for the favicon on the browser tab DP7 and WD7 does it for you. The file is saved as a .ico in index_htm_files folder ...
