.ai vector file won't open

I just vectorized a photo in a software called Vector Magic. I saved it as .ai. When trying to open this in Xara, I get: "No filters that were designed for this type of file have been found. The import will continue using the most compatible filter, although the image may not appear as intended." I see the progress bar at bottom go, but then a blank page appears, no image.

Any suggestions?

I have not used Vector Magic. Does it provide a choice of what version .ai format it can create? AI version 8 seems to work best with Xara applications.

From what I can see on the Vector Magic website, it will export as pdf that should open in Xara without any problems.

Hi Shokan22, Pdf from vector magic does indeed work fine with xara, you can even use the drag and drop feature (set to pdf) having xara in the background.

Hi, for some reason, it won't work for me. I've tried all the formats (ai, emf, pdf, eps, svg, etc).

You could open the pdf and I couldn't. Something's not right.

Try this .ai of the same image then, see if you can open it in Xara.

Perhaps. I just dragged into a new page in XDP6, but it works in XDP7 as well.

I attached an .ai of same image in the post above (which won't open in Xara here). try it and see if it works for you please.

Try opening the file in NotePad and look at the version.
