Continuing with the Problems with November Tutorial thread, specifically Eric's cool example of non-rectangular rollover buttons, I created a small example of how to add more information to each button. My buttons are admittedly a bit large, but I think you will get the idea.

I hope this isn't too much like the kid's I CREATED AN INTERFACE AND ROLLOVER BUTTONS thread.

Good ideas in that example Gary. Still a few minor technical difficulties though - A line appears at the edge of the buttons.

I assume the coding preloads the secondary graphics. That preloading, of course, tends to be more effective the smaller the file sizes involved. Thus, your example would likely be much more impressive at a smaller size where an instantanious response for slower connections is then possible.

One thing I've tried before is having the mouseover graphic be an animated gif. With preloading and a suitably smale file size it can work quite well.

...another thing worth considering if xarians are after an effect this large is to make the foliage the web page background, this would then erradicate the white space whilst the new button loads.

I suspect the white outline you see was caused by a white outline on one of the button states that I did not remove :-o And yes, smaller would be more effective.

I posted this link in Heimo's thread but I will post it here to. Aid4Teens

It is a pro bono web site I did for a teen help site. The rollover states of the buttons are Gif animations. All graphics were done in Xara, of course, and assembled in NetObjects Fusion.
