Default I seem to be having a 'senior' moment - help

Sorry to be a bother, but I am working with a color photo and I am trying to change it to black & white. I know I have done this before, but for the life of me, I cannot do this tonight. I have used the search function but I must be asking the question wrong. I would appreciate any guidance on this, I know it is simple....but

    Thank you,
    Bob

    Hi Bob, search for Contone.

Short answer is to select the photo then right click Black on the Color Line and select Set Contone Dark from the popup menu.

    Desaturate with "Set photo saturation"

I must be getting old, Bob. I forget what a senior moment is.

Or place a black rectangle over the entire photo and apply a Flat, 0%, Saturation transparency. This removes all of the color but keeps the photo intact. Remove the rectangle and you have the color photo.

Are you telling me that these 'moments' get worse? Man, that is what is so great about this forum and Xara. So many helpful/knowledgeable people and so many different ways to accomplish the desired task.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Here is a comparison of the three techniques mentioned plus another using Live Effects (the least satisfactory!)

I often have to do this for our little publication. My technique is as Mike (Graphicsfactory) suggested using the photo tool desaturation, but I also make adjustments with the brightness and levels dialogue.

You could always just choose 'Make black and white' from the context menu selection?
