There's no way to lock styles in for text and change a setting and the entire doc updates right? I'm talking about the app in general, not a web export or anything. InDesign text styles let's you store styles and update globally if you want. Xara doesn't have that right? I hope I haven't missed it all this time.

No styles. Correct.

What I do in this case is set some small text samples just off the page with the styles I want to use. Then I copy the appropriate text style to the clipboard, select the target text, and Edit > Paste Attributes.

You can also select text in the Names Gallery and change it globally.

But of course, a Styles menu would be great. I am sure we have asked more than once of this feature. It is one of the publishing features that is really useful and that is missing.
