Default CMYK Colour Issues in XDPro 7

    Hi,

I've just been working with some building signage and business cards inside of Designer Pro 7 and seem to be having a really hard time with the CMYK Colour selections. Regardless of what colour i pick either in CMYK or a PMS EC it shows incorrectly in Xara.

Every Colours seems to contradict my PMS colour wheel and the CMYK isn't even close.

Exporting the file into PS or Illustrator and the colour is correct so there must be some way to adjust Xara to show to correct colours on screen otherwise selecting PMS or CMYK colours when working with Xara s pointless as you don't really know what colour you have.

    Any thoughts here?

    Hi Jeff,

One thought. Keep your swatch books handy.

Wanna have some fun? Copy and paste your JPEG from your post into a new XDP document.
Draw a circle or square next to it.
Hit CTRL+E to pull up the color editor.
Make sure the CMYK color model is being used.
Use the eye dropper to select the blue field in your screen shot.
While it is not, well, perfect, it is sampling from a screen shot.

Now, while the CMYK color model is still being used, select from that wonderful blue XDP seems to choke on. Once you release the mouse button, did it turn back to what looks like black?

Now, change the color model to HSV. Using the eye dropper, select from that nice navy blue again. Did it stick? Yep.

Now do the same experiment with the RGB color model. The navy blue sticks.

I'll keep a tight hold on all my various color books. Well, and know in faith that my output will be correct (cause it is).

    Take care, Mike

    Hi Mike,

Tried what you said but it had no bearing on the page at all, RGB and HSV showed as black in the colour editor. So much for the Pro version!

What are the correct CMYK values JaffDave? I can't make them out in your first screenshot.

And, here it is with the cmyk color model showing. I deselected, selected objects (out of view) that had other colors, and then reselected the circle and it stuck for me.

    Hi Mike,

Yep looks like it works for you, Can't get it to do this for me in XD7 Pro or XD6 Pro, Oh well looks like I have to shell out more money for Adobe products. Thanks for your suggestions

    Thanks for that.

Using those values the results seem fine here - no black appearance.

Not sure what to suggest -- can't think what would cause your system to deliver different results ?
    How does it print though?

Can you post your test PDF?

I get tremendously great print PDFs from XDP6. I have 7 trial and will perhaps upgrade. There are a few colors that seem to be simply odd on-screen at times. But few. For instance, poking around your screen shot, it is only that navy blue that makes XDP7/6 puke a different color. But the PDF is good on my end.

    take care, Mike
