Magic Erase is actually a 'clone' or 'heal' tool. It's not for removing (erasing) backgrounds and such.

So, using the clone tool (confusingly, the 'stamp' icon) draw around the blemish or object you want to remove, then press the 'Magic Erase button on the info bar.

Also note, the Magic Erase button can be pressed more than once if you aren't satisfied with it's first result.

Select the image, select the transparency tool icon (wine glass) and adjust the level on the info bar via the slider.
    Export as true color+alpha
