This isn't great but thought I'd share it with you anyway.

    Hello Larry,

There are some artifacts in the solid bands of color... I'll assume it's because it was saved as jpg instead of png.

If that (image) is the result of your goofing, then you need to keep on goofing.

    Nice job

Thanks James. When I downloaded the jpg and enlarged it I saw them too. I don't know where they are from but I assume you are correct that they are jpg artifacts. I'll look into it further. Generally I'm not a fan of jpg but sometimes it seems to be a smaller file size.

    Hello Larry

    You're welcome...

On here, it seems that all uploaded graphics are converted to a jpg file. The built-in one converter doesn't do such a good job (imo), so when I have to upload graphics here, I have started also saving them out of the software as a jpg at 800 x 600 (so no conversion necessary) as well as the normal png.

    Take care

    James

they should only get converted to jpg if they exceed the forum size limit: 800 pix wide last time I looked

[there is a hight limit too but I forget what it be]

I don' know what it is either, I just check that it's not over 800pix in either dimension. if it's under that's OK with me. Mostly I reduce the size anyway before posting. Usually png but occasionally jpg.

Yes, you are right... it seems to only convert it to jpg if it goes over the 800 x 600 limit.

So, the bottom line is... if you have a graphic that you've created and it's larger than 800 x 600, it WILL be converted to jpg by the forum software and if it has bands of solid colors, then it will likely suffer.

I noticed at Xara Users that one can upload a graphic up to 1280 x 960 with no loss of quality. In this day and age of increased image sizes and considering that we are talking basically about "art" on this forum...this seems much more reasonable.

So, my suggestion is...increase the image sizes for uploaded graphics and/or tame the jpg converter. Or in other words, what is the point of using Xara to make a really cool graphic, if it's going to be significantly degraded upon presentation?

    Peace

    James
