Hi everyone,
Just got my cd of 3D4 and am playing around trying all the features... one thing escapes me though. Is it possible to rotate an object that is front facing just around the z axis? Or to move the center of rotation?

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Xara3D4 offers many rotation Options.

These images were all created using the Rotation 1 style.

You can select the rotation options my clicking on the A icon on the tool bar. Refer to the below attachment.

Hope this helps.

I wasn't referring to animation types.. I've seen that... just being able to position an object manually for effect. For example, try on your bat image... hit alt. home to put it front center. Now try to just rotate it counterclockwise 45 degrees and still be flat. It will turn and the extrusion will show.

If I understand your question, Glenn, you want to begin with the object on an angle?

If so, use the scroll bars to manually determine the starting position. You can also refer to the co-ordinates on the bottom right side of the application.

This help?

Nice tutorial, Soquili.

Thanks for responding so quickly, but it seems like you can't rotate freely on the z axis... the lower right corner shows three degree indicators (x,y,z).. no matter what I do, the third remains at zero. This came to my attention when I was trying to work with my wife's logo.. especially the first letter P. The font is ShelleyAllegro and as it types originally, it's too slanted to the right... so I rotate it counterclockwise about 7 degrees... You can't seem to do that in 3D... or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Hi Glenn,
Sorry, about misunderstanding your question. Getting a precise z-axis rotation manually can be very time consuming. The cursor keys only effect the x and y axis, so the mouse cursor would have to be used. The easiest way would be to import the image into XaraX and rotate it.

Gary - Thanks, Xara3D4 and XaraX made it easy.
