Default Published site is different to the preview

    Hi,

I am new to Xara and Web Designer. I didn't design the site that was done by someone else but I have taken over looking after it. I am a complete novice.

I made a few changes to the site and then checked all my changes carefully on the preview site tab. It looked fine. However when I published it there are all kinds of errors

    1. Pictures are missing
    2. Alignments are different and words that should be on one line have been pushed onto the next leaving a large gap at the end of the line.
    3. Some things are lying over the top of other things. Sometimes this is where words are pushed onto the next line but not always.

The site looks a right mess. Can someone tell me what I have done wrong please and preferably in words of one syllable so I can understand!

If you need the URL to see what I have done to this site it is http://chiropractortauranga.com and you will see examples on the home page paragraph 1 and at the bottom a piture is missing.

    Thanks a lot.

At least for the missing image, the problem seems to lie with your hosting. When I try to view the missing image in my browser, I see a server error instead of a file not found error:

I've just had a look at your site and with the exception of a single photo at the bottom of your home page [just above your copywrite message] all other photos appear on the other webpages for me.... I wonder if it's a browser issue? Having said that, when I first uploaded my site, i couldn't see stuff either... but I was told it was a cache issue with my pc... from memory I think i was told to press F5 [I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong] and then all of a sudden I could see my site.

    hope this helps.

Thanks for getting back to me. I will check with my hosting company who are pretty helpful about the missing picture. The alignment problem Xara support tells me is because it is justified text and this is not fully supportd in web browsers. They say I should relign everything to the left. However I don't want to do this as I don't think it looks as good. Has ayone got any suggestions please?

Also if I have to press F5 to see something will others have to as well please?

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

I have sorted all the text problems (excellent support from Xara) but I hav been in contact with my hosting company and they say the image files are missing. I have tried uploading them again but it makes no difference. There are 3 things that don't work:
    1. An animation.gif
    2. The video
    3. The enquiry form.

These all go missing when I upload but the rest of the site is fine.

Has anybody got any idea why please?

    Thanks.

The animation gif http://chiropractortauranga.com/inde...nimation11.gif is present but of 0 bytes - empty!

Video is at http://www.oceansidechiro.co.nz/video/osc_video1.wmv but is missing there. Not actually part of your website.
The enquiry form posts the info to http://chiropractortauranga.com/cgi-...l/formmail.cgi, which is missing and not part of your Xara website.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me. I am very confused. All these is there on my preview and on the xara web file so why are they not uploading with the rest of the files? I have obviously done something wrong but I am not sure what! Have you any ideas please?

    Thanks again.

The animation gif may be differrent on your computer to the one on the website. When you look at the gif file, do you see an animation? Is it longer than 0 bytes?

Video is at http://www.oceansidechiro.co.nz/video/osc_video1.wmv but is missing there. Not actually part of your website. Have no idea how this plays on the preview because the video does not exist at the web address.

The web form is on the published website and you'll see it on preview, however when you press the submit button, it won't work because it needs an extra bit of code on the server to work. This is set to be at http://chiropractortauranga.com/cgi-...l/formmail.cgi, which is missing and not part of your Xara website.

You should speak to whoever set this up in the first place.
