    Default Xara Xtreme 4

I'm just installing Xara Xtreme 4 because a client I am doing a project for only has that version. The file date is April 2008, it feels really wierd to be installing this old chestnut, like visiting an old café you haven't been near in a long time

Xtreme Pro 4 is what I use literally every working day. Can't afford the new stuff.

Snap - I could upgrade, but there's no compelling reason to do so. For quick and dirty websites I have WD5.

It is amazing how quickly you get used to new features.

For what it's worth, today -- for the first time -- I used Web Designer 7 in preference to Xara 5 Pro, for a simple photo-compositing non-web task. WD7 is very easy to use, very fast, and -- for most of what I do, seems to have all the basic drawing tools I need -- except for Xara 5 Pro's Live Effects, which lets me use Photoshop filters.

It felt like slipping into an old, well-used but very comfortable suit. I could easily go back to it were it not for the new features of XDP that I am now very loathe to give up.

I am amazed at how I have NOT been able to take to DP6. I find myself repeatedly going back to X4 for nearly all my work. The extra stuff is just not what I need and I find that some features such as the new layers dialog a RPITB. I am not having a rant, I am just agreeing with the others who find that X4 does what they want. Important for me is that it is fun to use. I am afraid that with more recent versions the fun has gone.
